In this episode - Spring Forward . . . Going through the Farmers Almanac, I was curious about Daylight Savings Time. Wondering why do we “Spring Forward? Tomorrow, the second Sunday, March 14, 2021, at 2 a.m., is when Daylight Saving Time (DST) begins in most areas of the United States. Be sure to set your clocks one hour ahead before bedtime on Saturday night! I can hear the naysayers now, “So we lose one hour of sleep Saturday night, huh - What’s the Benefit of DST? The idea behind moving the clocks twice a year is to take better advantage of the sun’s natural electricity (or light). Not to worry, your solar panels will do this automatically.   Face it, most folks get out of bed after the sun has risen and go to bed after it has set. But what if the sun rose and set later? When we spring forward, we’re not really “saving” time; we’re just giving up a little sun in the morning and adding it to the evening. So will we better utilize the sun’s illumination during this...

Podcast- Detentions . . . Nod your head if you remember the “punishment” of being kept after school - A  Detention . Punishment? I’m inclined to say the kids in our school thought detention was a joke. Let me give you a couple of examples, stick with me. My graduating class of 1974 (grades 1-12) attended school in three different buildings.  First, it was Cuba Elementary, a design that followed the era’s more modern, one-story, flat-roof design aesthetic. Here we attended grades one - six. No kindergarten when I started school. Then we transitioned to the old High School building on Main Street, built-in 1913.   A three-story brick design similar to Jefferson High school from the TV sitcom Happy Days .   And finally, our new building which I believe opened in 1970, connected, to the old one, via the Gymnasium and Cafeteria. It was a grand achievement when we finally  graduated  to the 7th grade, Jr. High on Main Street. This was our first introduction...
